So you have a dream of one day becoming a mega millionaire so you can make your mark on this planet and be a social entrepreneur. That’s great! I commend your vision, and I’m assuming that you’re working toward it right? But what if I told you that you didn’t have to wait until you were some rich mogul to make your mark. Wouldn’t you want to start right away?

The purpose of this post is to share some ideas that can help you on your journey toward your vision while also getting you going as a social entrepreneur right away.

Quick Social Entrepreneur Ideas for the Newbie

  • Start tithing a portion of your profits toward one cause that means something to you. I have been doing this for a few years now.  The benefit of focusing your tithing on one particular cause is that you can make a larger impact than if you spread your help over several causes.  I started out doing the latter just because there are so many worthy causes out there, but I found that focusing my efforts on one made it easier for me to align my marketing and brand.  Also, people came to associate me with the cause, which is very effective when setting up new campaigns or initiative because they kind of become expected…
  • Align yourself with a larger initiative.  Sure it would be nice to have your own foundation but when you are starting out, it can be a very costly endeavor in terms of time and resources.  When you align yourself with a larger initiative, you can focus on making a contribution as a social entrepreneur right away rather than on all the start up and set up activities.
  • As a social entrepreneur, make sure your cause and your business complement each other. This is usually a no-brainer for value-driven people because you will probably select your business venture based on your value system anyway, but it’s important to underline this from a customer perspective as well.  If a customer can easily see the value-based relationship between your cause and your business, then combining the two in your marketing is much more congruent and natural to them.  It just seems to make sense that your company is supporting that cause and may incentivize your prospects to be supportive of it.

The following video is an excellent example of how social entrepreneurs have aligned themselves with a larger initiative and have permitted their promoters a degree of latitude to find their cause while identifying with something bigger.  It’s a brilliant concept and I’m glad to be a part of it…
